
M. Simon FAI TAMFU,

Simon TAMFU worked at the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH), the State Oil Corporation of Cameroon from May 1985 to January 2017 in various positions of responsibility of which the last was Exploration Director for almost 10 years from 2007-2017.
Mr. Tamfu is a bilingual (English / French) petroleum professional with 36 years of multi-functional experience and leadership in the oil and gas industry in Cameroon, United States, Canada and Nigeria.
Mr. Tamfu holds both a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and a Master of Science Degree in Petroleum Geology all from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan – Nigeria.
Mr TAMFU started his career as an Operations / Exploration Geologist for Mobil Oil Corporation in 1981 and held various positions in Douala Cameroon, Texas, USA and Toronto, Canada prior to joining SNH in Yaounde, Cameroon in 1985.
Since joining SNH, Mr TAMFU has held several leadership positions including, but not limited to:
- Head of the Geology Section,
- Head Basin Evaluations,
- Head of Department: Exploration/Production Operations
- Deputy Director of Strategic Planning and Projects,
- Deputy Director of Exploration,
- Director of the Petroleum Information Centre and; presently
- Director of Exploration.
Among his core duties at SNH, Mr. TAMFU was the Vice President of the Permanent Commission for the Negotiations of Oil & Gas Contracts, represented and defended Cameroon in statutory technical meetings with oil and gas operating companies, managed the contractual training funds contributed by oil companies operating in Cameroon for the training of Nationals and sat on the Board of Directors’ Meeting of Addax Petroleum Cameroon Company on behalf of Cameroon.
He was also a part-time lecturer of Petroleum Geoscience at the University of Yaounde 1. He holds membership of several professional organisations including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), Geological Society of Africa (GSA) etc.
Mr Tamfu has just taken his retirement from regular work in SNH in January 2017 and will offer some advisory consultancy and mentoring/training services to the industry.
